We are almost all about politics today with the following (preceded by a blonde man joke):
Iowa and New Hampshire and Beyond- It's been quite the week on the campaign trail. So many twists and turns and spins and rejection of traditions and predictions. Join us for our commentary and that of many others. It's a fascinating time for anyone who cares about the future of this country.
Allen Raymond's "How to Rig An Election: Foreward" with Ian Spiegelman, posted by davidswanson on Sunday's
www.afterdownstreet.org is our second foray into the book of former Republican Operative Raymond convicted of New Hampshire voter phone jamming. Mr. Raymond's story is a fascinating glimpse into the win- at- all- costs mentality that has prevailed for years in GOP circles. Join us for details.
Be Very Alert: Christopher Hayes' "The Return of the Swiftboaters", published in the Nation and posted Friday on Alternet gives us pause. This group, who saved their real dirty work for the general election in 2004, has already doled out in excess of $200,000 to certain presidential candidates, which, according to Mr. Hayes, is a real cause for concern. You'll have to listen in to find out who are recipients and why the concern.
Cheney To Be Tapped for Another Tour? Ah, perish the thought. But, according to January 3's Think progress, "Rudy Floats Dick Cheney For Vice president Again". Yep, you read that right. Despite the fact that more than 177,000 people have signed an active petition to impeach him, and a dismal approval rating. What can Guiliani be thinking? Or do you really want to know?
George McGovern's "Why I Believe Bush Must Go", published in the Washington Post is a thoughtful summary of why Nixon was bad, but these guys are worse. We all know what acts or lack of acts by Bush and Cheney should as high crimes and misdemeanors, as the constitution requires for impeachable offenses. McGovern believes that true patriots must urge Congress to act, even if the chances of getting any results are low. Listen up for details.
Trent Lott and John Breaux Partner Up: Why? To make lots of money as former Senators turned lobbyists, of course. Surprise, surprise. Something really needs to be done about this revolving door/money-making scheme.
We'll be back Thursday, January 10 no doubt with comments on New Hampshire's primary results. Until then, stay safe and hope for honest new beginnings!
