Politics: Jeffrey St. Clair's "The Shriveling of Michigan", published yesterday in
www.counterpunch.org is a gripping commentary on how Michigan's diminished primary status reflects the shrinking status of the state itself, as well as St. Clair's opinion of various presidential contenders. We also comment on John Nichols' "Michigan's Ominous Message for Hillary Clinton", published Wednesday by The Nation. And despite Sam's distaste for Ralph Nader, Deidre insists on reviewing his "What You Won't hear from the Frontrunners- The Candidate Taboos", published Tuesday in Counterpunch. Join us!
Law: Ellen Nakashima's "In Child Porn Case, a Digital Dilemma" published Wednesday in the Washington Post, describes a very interesting tension between the government's interest in having a federal court order a man to type a password that would unlock his computer files and his claim that to be forced to do so violates his rights against self-incrimination. Fascinating.
The "I" Word: Florida Democratic Representative Robert Waxler is now loudly calling for Cheney's impeachment, according to Politico's John Bresnahan on Wednesday. Waxler reasons that impeachment is necessary to restore the balance of power between the executive and legislative branches, as the White House cannot raise executive privilege claim to avoid answering lawmakers' questions. Sam remains skeptical. Listen in for details.
Economy: Patrick Buchanan's "Subprime Nation", published Tuesday in
www.informationclearinghouse.info is a compelling summary of what's wrong and what we don't have to look forward to as irresponsible prodigal sons. It's not pretty, and we're not sure anything can be done about it. A must-listen!
We plan to return on Monday, January 21. Thanks for your continuing support and occasional comments.
