Lawmakers Send Mixed Messages: This segment shows how screwed up the U.S. Senate really is. We first address "Senate Passes Bush's Massive Illegal Spying Program, Immunity for Telecoms", posted by Scarecrow on Wednesday's
www.alternet.org. Seems the Senate voted 68 to 29 to ratify this particular nightmarish illegal spying program, delivering another stunning blow to our tattered Constitution. That 68 included every Republican Senator, Independent Joe Lieberman and 18 so-called Democrats, but at least Obama showed and voted against while Hillary stumped in Texas. Then, according to a report in Wednesday's
www.thinkprogress.org, the Senate voted 51-45 in favor of Diane Feinstein's bill establishing one interrogation standard as articulated in the Army Field Manual, banning waterboarding. Interestingly, former prisoner of war and previously outspoken opponent of waterboarding John McCain voted AGAINST this bill. Be afraid, be very afraid of this presidential contender.

Runaway "Justice": We focus on three examples here: A Ohio woman who calls 911 for assistance as a victim of an assault finds herself being strip searched by a gang of seven cops, at least two of whom are men, a Florida quadrapelegic is dumped to the floor from his wheelchair by a cop when he does not stand as commanded, and and former Mayor Grace Saenz-Lopez and twin sister of Alice, Texas are indicted over the theft of Shih Tsu Puddles-not the original theft but lying about the dog Saentz-Lopez had dognapped being stolen from the Mayor! This is a lively segment you won't want to miss.
Politics: Obama Stomps and Begins a Romp? This is the bazillion dollar question, and we have some opinions as you might guess. Sam focuses on a speech Senator Obama gave Wednesday in Janesville, Wisconsin and Deidre remarks on James Carville's predictions. Bottom line: Hill has a hill to climb.
Iraq: Seems that Iraq has three laws on the books, allowing leaders of Shiite, Sunni and Kurd blocs each to proclaim a win. Thanks to Alissa J. Rubin, whose piece "Iraqi Lawmakers Pass Three Crucial Laws" was published in Wednesday's International Herald Tribune for this little gem, which points out the problems in the measures. Sam waxes eloquent in discussing Paul Craig Roberts' "Bush Calls on France for Help- War without end", published Tuesday in
www.informationclearinghouse.info. His point: war funding does not support the troops, but rather an evil machine. A must-listen segment!
We plan to return on Monday, February 18. Help us out by spreading the word! Thanks for listening.
