Making a Difference from the Bottom Up

  Listen

Politics Dominates Podcast: As much as we try, we cannot avoid this topic as it is constantly in our faces. We do try to make it interesting through a wide selection of sources, and today is no exception. We open with Howard Zinn's "Election Madness", published in the March issue of The Progressive, which while urging citizens to action, contained enough misinformation to infuriate Sam.  He follows with Rick Pearson's response to Clinton's continuous allegations that Obama lacks substance with "Clinton: Obama Untested, Just Like Bush Was", from The Swamp, posted in Saturday's Huffington Post. Pearson lists in detail the numbers and types of bills introduced by both Senators. It seems Clinton's numbers for her entire 7 year tenure are eclipsed multiple times by Obama in his first year. Frank Rich's comments in "Audacity of Hopelessness", appearing in Sunday's N.Y. Times and Alexander Cockburn's "Mushrooming Clouds Hang Over McCain" in Saturday's Counterpunch add fuel to our fire, along with comments we heard on Sunday's talk shows. Meanwhile, there is the Ralph Nader announcement which we address with the help of Richard Winger, who in Ballot Access News instructs us in ballot access laws concerning third party candidates as excerpted from a Glenn Day's reference, "Minor Presidential Candidates and Parties of 1992".  A meaty segment, if we do say so ourselves.

Economics Lesson: Numbers make Sam's eyes cross, and the term "economics" makes Deidre shiver with dread. But Mike Whitney's "It's Time to Dump the Federal Reserve" published Friday in www.informationclearinghouse  is a must-read, or at least a must-listen as we discuss it. Why? Because Whitney explains the magnitude of what is going on economically in a simple to understand analogy involving a conveyor belt, two workers and a pile of money. Tune in, get informed and then buckle down and protect yourselves as much as you can.

Marine is Dog's Best Friend: Sometimes we have to struggle to find good news. Any good news. Today we highlight a truly uplifting story, "Dog Saved by Marine Coming to California", published by AP on Friday. Nubs, a German shepherd-border collie mix who had been mutilated, found a special friend in Marine Major Brian Dennis while he was on assignment in Anbar province. And Nubs' will to live and his determination to stay with Maj. Dennis led to a complex but successful effort to get Nubs to the U.S. If you want a smile, listen up!

Okay folks, we have one remaining podcast on Thursday February 28 before our magic 300th on March 3. Your input and suggestions count for a lot, and we appreciate your expanding our base by telling your friends about us.
