First Amendment Chill in Alabama: Make that a freeze. Join us for a discussion of the northern Alabama blackout of the 60 Minutes segment on former Governor Don Seigelman Sunday evening, as we use Mogolori's diaries-kos post, "Important Updates to Seigelman Blackout Story in Al.", for reference. The segment involves allegations that the Democrat Governor was prosecuted for political reasons. We suppose this effort was to keep future Republican voters in literal darkness. And you thought we live in a free society?
Political Corner: Another large chunk taken up here. We touch on several perspectives, beginning with conservative David Brooks' op-ed piece, "The Real McCain" appearing in Sunday's N.Y. Times. This very complimentary listing of McCain's legislative accomplishments is a subject which is far from Sam's favorite. Mark Barabak's "They're Republican red, and true blue to Obama", published Saturday in the L.A. Times is a fascinating glimpse into the world of life-long republican Obama volunteers in Ohio. We can see why Obama is optimistic. L.A. Times' Janet Hook draws some interesting contrasts with "Senate careers branch differently for Clinton, Obama" published Sunday, while Tom Foreman points to the importance of candidates connecting with voters in " 'Raw Politics': Words matter for Clinton, Obama", published Monday by CNN. Finally, digby's post, "How Do We Defeat Tim Russert?" gives a not-so-flattering opinion of the political press. Listen up and learn!
Gitmo: We return to this important subject with commentary on two disturbing articles: "Confessions of a Gitmo Guard- A Nightmare World of Torture and Prison Guard Suicides", posted Sunday in
www.counterpunch.org, and "Gitmo Trials Rigged from the Start" by Ross Tuttle in The Nation. The titles give you a clear road map of where we go here, and it's not pretty. But a must-listen in any event.
We'll be back on Monday, March 3 with our landmark 300th podcast. We'll plan to make it a memorable one! Thanks for your support.
