Current Roads Leading Nowhere

  Listen

If you listen to this podcast, you'll understand the title. Trust us on this. And as unpleasant as it is, you really need to listen up. We include the following illustrations:

Administration: We turn to Thomas Friedman's op-ed "Mr. Bush, Lead or Leave", appearing in Sunday's N.Y. Times and Isaiah Poole's "Bush's Obstruction Binge", published Thursday in www.ourfuture.org for openers. Friedman's piece deals with the administration's currrent attempts at blaming Congress for the $4/gallon gas prices if its members refuse to reverse themselves on the ban on offshore drilling, while Poole addresses the rampant veto threats (10 in May and 9 in the first three weeks of June) of legislation that might actually help us working stiffs, the poor, the foreclosed upon and others.

Economy- It gets worse: We then discuss a trio of fascinating (and depressing) articles,  Bill Sher's "One Final Solid For Big Oil", appearing Thursday in our future, Nomi Prins' "Who Benefits From High Food Prices?", published Friday by Mother Jones, and Paul Craig Roberts' "A Totally Lawless Regime", published in the weekend edition of www.counterpunch.org. You have to join us to find out the details, but we will say these articles warn we may have reached a true dead end to life as we once knew it in this country. Add to it MSNBC's Sunday publishing of  "Is Everything Spinning Out of Control?" and you might as well take two aspirin and go to bed. For a long time.

Congress Ain't Blameless: Far from it. You know it and so do we. But Jason Leopold's "Democrats, Pelosi Hand White House Sweeping Legislative Victories", published Saturday in www.afterdowningstreet.org sums up the currrent state of enablement and co-dependency between the Executive and Legislative branches of our dying government rather efficiently.

The Topper- Hate Groups Are Alive and Well: We suppose we should thank Washington Post's Eli Saslow for writing "Hate Groups' Newest Target", published Sunday. But it sure is a bummer to realize that there are many people in this country who are upset enough at the prospect of having a nonwhite president they are joining one or more hate groups dedicated to spreading lies and hate far and wide.

We'll be back, we hope on June 26. Until then, spread the word!
