Politics Provides Pork Sandwiches

  Listen

We're back to it, and it's astounding how many potential nation-and-life-changing events have occurred during our silence. It's also interesting how two of our favorite topics remain inextricably interwined:

Politics: We start and end here.

Of course we, like most of you, have been closely following Gov. Sarah Palin's impact on the Presidential race, and it has been sort of like watching a table tennis match during a bout of heavy adult beverage consumption. So many opinions, which shift as quickly as she does, making it really hard to keep up. We have a number of comments about the vice-presidential "debate", which turned out to be a simultaneous debate by Senator Biden and a speaking engagement by Gov. Palin, helped along by a number of sources, including the Sunday talking heads as well as Maureen Dowd's October 5 New York Times op-ed, "Sarah's Pompom Palaver" and Sam's favorite quotes from other prominent journalists.

We eventually get to the current state of affairs with respect to various polls, and utilize the Guardian U.K.'s Michael Tomasky's October 4 comment, "McCain's strategic retreat is the real story" as background. And then there are the anticipated October surprises from both sides. We get into Johann Hari's "The October Surprises Waiting for Obama", posted October 4 on www.huffingtonpost.com, along with the current state of the troopergate investigation, currently parked before the Alaska Supreme Court, as possible examples. Yessiree, it appears that this two year rollercoaster ride is not quite over. Join us for the latest.

Economics: The pork sandwiched in between.

It really is the economy, stupid, and it seems that the incompetence of the administration is exceeded only by the incompetence of congress at this juncture. Join us as we discuss the bailout, who's really in charge, where the money is going to go, and whether regular working-class stiffs will get any meaningful relief. Are there any members of the middle class left to enjoy the endless supply of pork? Will there be this time next year? Or will they become extinct, leaving only a rich v. poor divide? Listen up!

Dressing:

Deidre provides some dressing with a short book review of Ron Hall and Denver Moore's "Same Kind of Different as Me". Join in and then read the book. It's important. Now if we could only get the politicians to read it.

We'll be back. Hopefully, sooner rather than later. Please tell your friends about the podcast. Thanks for believing in us.
