Horticulture: We admit we know almost nothing about this topic. In fact a friend had to point out a number of pecan trees on Deidre's property, despite the fact that both Deidre and Sam have walked, driven and mowed over the pecans for two years. Then there's the mystery tree in Sam's son's yard--loaded with small apple-sized fruit that tastes like a cross between a peach and an apricot. Ideas?

Arrogance of Government These Days: We discuss several note-worthy publications on this topic. Among them:
"Chertoff May Void Judge's Orders to Halt Border Fence" by Howard Fischer in Sunday's Arizona Star and in
www.truthout.org is a real eye-opener. Seems Homeland Security Director Michael Chertoff is empowered to exempt border construction projects from any law, including federal court orders halting same, in order to give environmental groups time to conduct studies. At issue: a two mile section of fence at the foot of a national conservation area near Tucson. According to Fischer, Chertoff has used the power to declare his agency above the law on at least two prior occasions. Tune in for more.

Scott Thrill's "Does Bush Hate Kids?" posted Wednesday on
www.alternet.org uses New York Times columnist Paul Krugman's recent Buzzflash interview as a basis of analysis of why President Bush is so determined to sink the proposed SCHIP legislation. Listen up, get really, really mad and then raise hell with your representatives.
Drumbeat to Get Out of Iraq Moves Up in Rank: Robert Scheer's "Dissent from the Front Lines", published Wednesday in
www.commondreams.org points out that troops in the know on the ground are being ignored in favor of the official line, reminding us of the seven sergeants' August N.Y. Times Op-Ed "The War as We Saw It", and now 12 former Army captains' "The Real Iraq We Knew" published in the Washington Post on Tuesday. This time, the captains say we either must get out now or begin a draft to sustain what appears to be a decades-long struggle. A must listen!
We'll be back next week. Thanks for your support!
