Is the Coup Complete?

  Listen

You decide, as we discuss the following:

Wiretapping: Sam rants about an NPR interview with Mark Klein, a former employee of AT & T, who explains his opposition to the proposed Congressional immunizing of communications companies who cooperated in the government's illegal wiretapping of countless Americans, despite the requirements of FISA. Deidre adds historical perspective through Studs Terkel's "The Wiretap This Time", published October 29 as an op-ed in the N.Y. Times. Listen up, and then, to see just how far we've slid into the abyss, go to You Tube and search for North American Union & V Chip Truth. It's absolutely chilling. We promise.

Waterboarding: We know what it is, despite the fact that Mukasey blithely claims to lack an understanding of it. We discuss a very detailed description of the procedure as described in "Waterboarding is torture - I Did It Myself, says U.S. Advisor" , by Leonard Doyle, published in Thursday's Independent/UK. Simulated drowning? Nope, it's actual drowning, without question.  Ah, the political sidesteppings and maneuverings continue to strike at the heart of life as we knew it.

Merger of Politics and Religion: Sam's favorite commentator, Chris Floyd, recently posted "Lord Have Mercy- Religious Fascist Endorses Political Fascist", a topic about which we have a number of comments. What a unfamiliar place the United State has become!

Pakistan: Yet another nightmare, and Sheryl Gay Stolberg and Helene Cooper's "Straying Partner Leaves White House in a Lurch", published Sunday in the N.Y. Times, focuses on why the administration isn't being more aggressive in trying to reign in Gen. Musharraf. Interesting!

Freedom of Travel Becoming Severely Curtailed: Say what? This segment should be a real wake-up call to those who like to travel. Why? Listen in, as we discuss Naomi Wolf's "A 'Paper Coup' and Blackwater Eyes Midtown Manhattan", published Monday by The Huffington Post. Apparently certain activists are being detained for hours at various airports, some of whom are told they have no rights as they are not in the U.S. (even though one was in the Los Angelos airport at the time). Are we ever going to wake up?

We plan to be back Monday, November 12. Until then, be vigilent.
